134  | 附縣志形勢險要，論畧應為楚之北門，自古必爭之地。《呂覽》謂天下扼塞，有九冥，阨其一而大隧直轅，左右虎據三關鼎峙，號稱天險。東有太平鎮，鎮濱河，水繞其山，下通孝昌，上達羅山，商賈往來，奸慝錯雜，守禦維難。水之従西南來者，經馬坪、過平市，南入於溳。應山、隨州遂得因河岸東西以為界。接壤安陸，曰夀山，聳西南之巖峻，以迴向乎郡城。是應山者，郡之保障也。依乎腹心，則溳城亦為邑之砥柱焉。內外表裏，相為屏衛。舊志云：鄖子國在熊繹封北，永邑又在鄖北，直與申伯國聨，岡巒礌矹，三國隘險，九砦為烈，屹然北門，鎖鑰也。申畫郊圻，慎固封守，厥維重哉！ |
