28  | 西士曰：謂草木為無血乎？是僅知紅色者之為血，而不知白者、綠者之未始非血也。夫天下形生者，必以養；而所以得養者，津液存焉，則凡津液之流貫，皆血矣，何必紅者？試觀水族中，如蝦如蟹，多無紅血，而釋氏弗茹；蔬菜中亦有紅液，而釋氏茹之不禁；則何其重愛禽獸之血，而報棄草木之血乎？且不殺知覺之物，以其能痛也已，我誠不欲其痛，寧獨不殺，即勞之、役之，將有所不可。凡牛之耕野，馬之够乘，未免終身之患，豈伊不長有痛乎？較殺之之痛止在一時者，又遠矣！況禁殺牲，反有害於牲。蓋禽獸為人用，故人飼畜之；飼畜之而後，禽獸益蕃多也。如不得之以為用，人豈畜之乎？朝捐不急之官 ，家黜無能之僕，而況畜類乎？西虜懼食豕，而一國無豕。天下而皆西虜，則豕之種類滅矣。故愛之而反以害之，殺之而反以生之。是禁殺牲者，大有損于牧牲之道矣。 |
