董翼孔廟缺典疏》題為幸學奉㫖有期缺典及時宜舉事,竊惟古今道徳之極,莫盛於孔子矣,古今隆重之典,亦莫盛於孔廟矣,乃議禮之朝不數,而聚訟之口常棼,二千年來,竟有所廢缺而不講者,直至我世廟而始剙舉之,啟聖祠之祀,叔梁紇是也,九十年來,尚有所疎畧而未周者,又将待我皇上而始備舉之,啟聖祠之不獨祀,叔梁紇是也,粤自漢高帝迄宋初,何代何君,不知有孔子哉?而牲帛諡號止及孔子之身,未及孔子之先也!世官世爵,止下逮其所出,而未始上逮其所自出也。叔梁紇齊國之封,自大中祥符始,而名稱徒具,典禮無聞,迨我太祖聞天國子宋濓言之矣,而兵戎倥偬,未暇舉行,孝宗嗣服,侍講程敏政言之矣,而甲乙紛嚻,竟成寢閣,肅皇帝禮樂中興,乃用輔臣張璁議,詔立啟聖祠,祀叔梁紇配饗從祀,濟濟一堂,豈不稱殷禮哉?惟是二臣建議,不緣尊奉,孔子起見,原為顔曾思位堂上,父不應坐廡下,據子雖齊聖,不先父食之禮,求所以安處,㸃鯉無繇伹,得叔梁紇一祀可以配諸賢,便可通祀典之窮,而叔梁紇以前,當有為孔子崇報者不暇計矣,張璁稱引是說,遂亦無所推廣,致令世宗隆禮孔廟之制,猶未大備,殊為缺然。夫國家之事,孔子無不至矣,猶是加思所自,僅及其父,進之而伯夏,又進之,而防叔俱泯泯無聞,不得享封崇之榮,與樽俎之列,臣實傷之。臣謂防叔伯夏合照叔、梁紇一體,追封奉祀,壇宇無用,别營第就啟聖祠,倣同堂異室之例,増設一龕,以防叔處中伯夏處、左叔梁紇處右,或并稱啓聖公,而以世次别之可也,或并稱公而酌定二諡而别於啟聖,亦可也,此禮舉而孔氏父子祖孫並荷思綸,並食國祭孔子,在天之靈,庶幾用慰,而朝廷之崇報孔子,又寧有缺畧而不周至者乎?或曰孔子之報與天無極,猶當十世享之,而臣不以為然也,孔子稱周公成文武之德,追王惟太王、王季、文王,豈以素王而敢踰越耶?司馬遷叙孔子世家,亦斷自防叔伯夏為始,則議禮而至,防叔、伯夏亦無容見少矣,或又曰:一切祀典,必求其所表,賢防叔伯,夏無所著於春秋,於禮何居?而臣又不以為然也?羽淵之血不可以配天乎?孟氏之敫公,宜又安知視防叔、伯夏為何似也?且顔曾思孟大賢矣,而視孔子則遠矣,周、程、朱蔡大儒矣,而視孔子又遠矣,彼且以其父配孔氏而享,從孔氏而祀,而孔氏祀享,僅一啟聖而止,無所加於諸賢,諸儒何無等也?不可解矣!聖朝推思,四品而下,上及一世,三品而上,逓有増加,何秩然也?聖賢分量,豈啻禄位崇卑,乃推恩祀典一概而無所軒輊,不可解矣。臣子之官一品者,恩寵榮施,三世何優渥也?而啓聖祠之封爵,灌獻祖以上不得與焉,豈至聖先師反出保傅下耶?尢不可解矣,為孔子惕尊祖敬宗之心,為萬世開綱,常倫理之報,非皇上隆師重道之首務耶?抑臣猶有說焉。契為孔子遠祖堯所使為司徒,敷五敎而遜五品者,此萬世敎化之宗,孔子道統所自來也,視稼穡之稷,敎養開先,並垂永頼,應與厯代功臣祭典,以湯武之故,不便配享,遂淪沒不祀,何耶?臣載按太稷禮,以后稷配,春秋猶兩有事焉,而明倫如契,彜敎所昉,獨無處與明禋之末,何草草也?臣謂帝王廟傍宜有一祠,别祀稷契,如謂稷已與配别祀,可省一契,又不宜有專祠,請詔闕里為之祭丁,分官致奠,如啓聖祠禮,則功臣祭典之罅補塞而無滲漏,而聖學淵源亦不至滅沒而無傳矣!方今軍旅倉望,誼不得迂譚爼豆,乃聖作昌期,正典禮修明之日,而臨雍在邇環橋,人士觀聽新天子禮樂,行且雲集,臣敢無說而處此耶?伏乞勅下該部,集議具覆,舉行曠典,臣不勝悚息待命之至。再議孔廟缺典疏題為「聖裔已沐,殊思孔廟,宜修缺典,謹用補牘,再申末議,以裨典禮事」。臣昔為諸生時,春秋二仲,得駿奔啓聖祠,竊嘗伏而思曰:叔梁紇祀占未有也,我列聖朝亦未之有也!肅皇帝用輔臣張璁議,創兹殷禮,昭垂簡册,焜耀千古,詎非大聖人作為哉?獨奈何防叔伯夏之未與也?國家崇奉孔子,何所不至,而封爵俎豆不及三世,竊有憾焉!臣近竽言路,得以言事皇上矣,初夏入班行,即擬一言,以補典禮之缺,而於時遼信初傳談兵,孔棘議禮,固未遑也,居無何而禮臣以臨雍請矣,隨得明嵗舉行之㫖,臣同官以孔氏鄉舉請矣,隨得嵗外額加之㫖,臣於是有幸學奉㫖有期,缺典及時,宜舉一疏,私心計俞綸可旦暮邀也,巳奉聖㫖,幸學改期,已有㫖了祀典,先朝久定,不得紛議,該部知道。欽此,臣又伏而思曰:皇上嗣服以來,浩蕩之恩,隆施廣運,豈有靳於孔子之先?亦惟是東事狼狽,兵餉焦勞,軍旅張皇,無暇及俎豆事耳!臣遂不敢復行。陳凟擬俟來嵗之春,王正月釋奠,屇期言之,即或廵方輪,次廷遣,先時陛辭,拜疏未晚也,乃今荏苒數月,而釋奠盛舉,將轉盼至矣。載讀東省獻土録,四氏學中,孔聞籍孔聞並以新命舉矣,不愛實科目以寵孔氏子孫,而獨愛虚祝帛,不以榮孔氏之宗祖,豈孔子亦猶是俗情也,不念其宗祖而第念子孫乎?臣固知孔子之不然也,年來接邸報時,時見覃恩諸疏,隨上隨下百餘年,荆棘之墓,盡表新阡數十載,凋落之家,悉叨胄監絶,無有愛惜鄭重而不行頒給者,何獨於孔子之三世偏吝此典,而不得與於覃恩之例也?邇者皇上講席時勤,開講必先謁孔子,羮墻之見,何處無之?諸所陳說,經書非孔子所口授,則孔子所手定也。陟降孔子,誦讀孔子,而孔子之王父曾王父竟不得霑封爵俎豆之賜,安在其為尊孔子耶?孝經稱周公大孝曰:郊祀后稷以配天,宗祀文王於明堂以配上帝。中庸稱周公成文武之徳曰追王太王、王季、文王,此可見周公之孝,不獨在文王一配帝,文王一追王矣,孔子素王也,豈敢擬於王制?而通於所以稱周公祀后稷、王太王之義,則尊祖敬宗,聖人論孝,葢惓惓焉。臣固知防叔、伯夏之祀,諒非孔子所不樂也,僅僅祀一叔梁紇,而不以及防叔、伯夏,其中豈無所缺?然乎?一切典禮,定自先朝,何敢輕議?乃禮以義起,隨時増定,亦國家之所不禁也,即以叔梁紇之祀,高皇所未定也,世廟固不嫌參酌而剙舉之矣,則防叔、伯夏之祀,雖世廟所未定者,皇上又何嫌推廣而備舉之耶?况乎同堂異室,簡而易行,禮有增加,事無勞費,巳悉臣前,疏中見在御前,無敢贅矣,當此嵩視之辰,萬國衣冠,畢馳輦轂,倘䝉皇上俯采芻言,修舉曠典,則孔子父子祖孫,並沐恩綸,並享國祭,孔子在天之靈,庶幾用懌,而凡百有位,誰非讀孔氏書者?又誰不懽呼忻忭,倍鼓暢於祝釐之下哉?伏惟聖明裁察。勅下該部集百官會議,如果臣言不謬至聖,孔子應得榮及三世,孔子之曽祖防叔祖伯夏應得與於封爵,俎豆具覆,上請詔令同叔梁紇一體崇祀,則數千年缺事,一旦舉行,而我皇上隆師重道之禮,斯其無餘歉矣!臣不勝懇切待命之至。
