17  | 薄言采芑音起，于彼新田，于此菑音緇畞葉每彼反。方叔蒞音利止。其車三千，師干之試葉詩止反。方叔率止，乘其四騏。四騏翼翼。路車有奭音肸，簟茀音弗魚服叶蒲北反，鉤膺鞗音條革叶訖力反。○興也。芑，苦菜也。青白色。摘其葉有白汁出。肥可生食。亦可蒸為茹。卽今苦藚菜。宜馬食軍行。采之，人馬皆可食也。田一歲曰菑，二歲曰新田，三歲曰畬。方叔，宣王卿士。受命為將者也。蒞，臨也。其車三千，法當用三十萬眾。蓋兵車一乘，甲士三人，歩卒七十二人，又二十五人，將重車在後，凡百人也。然此亦極其盛而言。未必實有此數也。師，眾。乾，扞也。試，肄習也。言眾且練也。率，總率之也。翼翼，順序貌。路車，戎路也。奭，赤貌。簟茀，以方丈竹簟為車蔽也。鉤膺，馬洛頷有鉤，而在膺有樊有纓也。樊，馬大帶。纓，鞅也。鞗革，見蓼蕭篇。○宣王之時，蠻荊背叛。王命方叔南征。軍行采芑而食。故賦其事以起興。曰：薄言采芑，則于彼新田，于此菑畞矣。方叔蒞止，則其車三千，師干之試矣。又遂言其車馬之美，以見軍容之盛也。 |
