34  | 堯讓天下於許由，曰：日月出矣，而爝醮爵二音火不息，其於光也，不亦難乎？時雨降矣，而猶浸懽，其於澤也，不亦勞乎？夫子立而天下治，而我猶尸之，吾自視闕然，請致天下。許由曰：子治天下，天下既已治也，而我猶代子，吾將為名乎？名者，實之賓也。吾將為賓乎？鹪鷯巢於深林，不過一枝；偃鼠飲河，不過滿腹。歸休乎君，子無所用天下為。庖人雖不治庖，尸祝不越樽俎而代之矣。 |
| 35 | 許由隱於箕山。太史公曰：余登箕山，其上有許由塚。立，起也。尸，主也。闕然，不足也。堯言許由起則天下治矣，我乃猶主此位，自視不足，不能及許由也。名者，實之賓。實為主而名為客也。吾將為賓乎，不肯務名也。鹪鵪似黃雀而小，又名鹪●，一名桃雀，即《詩》所謂挑蟲，俗謂能生鵰。偃鼠即鼹鼠，大鼠也。歸休乎君，休息也。堯即許由訪焉，許由謂堯其歸而息此讓天下之事乎。語尾復稱君，以致其珍重之意。此說聖人無名，故曰吾將為名乎。名者實之賓也，吾將為賓乎？ |
