問曰：「何不稱越經書記，而言絕乎？」曰：「不也。絕者，絕也。句踐之時，天子微弱，諸侯皆叛。於是句踐抑彊扶弱，絕惡反之於善，取舍以道，沛歸於宋，浮陵以付楚，臨沂、開陽，復之於魯。中國侵伐，因斯衰止。以其誠在於內，威發於外，越專其功，故曰越 絕1。故作此者，貴其內能自約，外能絕人也。賢者所述，不可斷絕，故不為記明矣。」 1. 絕 : Inserted. |
